💡 1 SOLUTION FOR EFFECTIVE MINISTRY

One of the most effective ways to increase focus and efficiency in ministry is to follow a clear plan that focuses on one task or type of task at a time. A simple way to level up this approach is to separate preparation from execution, especially for work that requires different types of mental energy.

For example, when I record the Practical Church podcast, it’s far better to prep my content (brainstorm ideas and outline what I’ll say) at a different time than when I actually hit record. Trying to do both in one sitting takes longer and usually leads to a less focused episode.

The same goes for sermon prep. I’ve found it much more helpful to separate my study and writing time from my review and refinement time. When I return to the sermon later with fresh eyes, the process flows better and the message is stronger.

Even something as simple as my morning routine benefits from this: prepping my clothes, lunch, and essentials the night before makes the morning much smoother and less stressful.

The key principle? Prep and execution are not the same. They require different types of thinking and focus. When you plan your calendar, give yourself permission to break apart these phases—even if it’s for one “project.” It will lead to sharper work and better results.

🤔 1 CHALLENGE FOR LIFE AND MINISTRY

Pick one project or task on your plate, like a sermon, meeting, or event, and schedule two separate time blocks: one for prep and one for execution.

Notice how breaking it up improves your clarity and focus.
